"THE MIRACLE OF MARINES" CAMPAIGN SAY NO TO BERKELEY COUNCIL

As an American citizen, it is my duty to not only report and opine on topics that hurt America and it's troops, but also try to provide resources to readers so that they can take action.

As of today, I am submitting to all Americans to take the time and send a card, letter or note to show support to the Berkeley Marines Corps.  Please don't inundate their office with phone calls or clog their computers with emails.  While they are grateful to receive our support, they still have a job to perform.  Besides, let's give these men something more than pressing 11 numbers on a phone.  Give them something tangible.  Something they can hold in their hands to show to their Comrades, Commanders, the Federal Government, the City Council and the News Media.

Show Your Patriotism today by supporting the effort of  "The Miracle Of Marines!" campaign.  Please write a post card, note or sending a card of support to this address:

U.S. Marine Corps. Office of Berkeley
"The Miracle Of Marines" Campaign
64  Shattuck Square
Berkley, CA  94704

Now, let's get those who sit on the Berkeley California City Council.  Send them your letters of disapproval and disgust at their choices.  Tell them how offended you are at their actions toward our Marines.  Please keep it a civil as possible.  We don't want to lower our standards to that of Code Stink (pink).  Let's do what Marines do; rise above the agressors and take them head on with honor.  You can mail your correspondence to:

City of Berkeley
Central Administrative Offices
2180 Milvia St.
Berkeley, CA 94704

Spread the word!  Send as many postcards, notes, letters, to express your support for the USMC and your disgust at those participating in the anti-American sentiment of those at the Berkeley City Council.  Gather your civic groups, church groups, neighbors, Local VFW groups, family and friends.   Tell them  about "The Miracle of Marines" campaign, every card, note and letter means something.

I received the following comment to this post:

Berkeley is a nice prosperous area…explaining to the major employers in Berkeley that their products will be as welcome in your home as the Marines are will help them to make 'good' choices…

Bayer is a big one…the Federal Govt is the other one.

As a repsonse the this gentlmen's comment, following is the address of the Bayer Corporation:

Soldiers Dad, You're right that the corporations operating in the Berkeley area should do their part and support the Marines. I sincerely hope that Bayer uses their corporate weight in this issue.

VFW Condemns Berkeley City Council for Permitting Marine Harassment

I wanted to pass to you a statement from the national commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars regarding Berkeley City Council's giving Marines the boot. The chief also is encouraging the 2.3 million members of the VFW and its Auxiliaries to email the city council.

“The resolution is a direct insult to not only the Marines Corps, but also to all members of the nation’s armed forces,” said George Lisicki, national commander of the VFW, the nation’s largest organization of combat veterans. “Their recent actions represent a calculated effort to legalize harassment of one of our nation’s most elite military organizations. If there were ever a prize awarded for lack of appreciation and awareness for what our military has contributed to preserving our way of life, the Berkeley City Council would certainly win the trophy.”

Here the text of the story:

VFW Condemns Berkeley City Council for Permitting Marine Harassment

KANSAS CITY, Mo., Feb. 4, 2008–The national commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) is furious with the Berkeley, Calif., City Council, calling their actions “outrageous and idiotic” following their recent vote to give the boot to a U.S. Marine Corps Recruiting Station.

The Berkeley City Council, on Jan. 29 by a vote of 6-3, told the Marines at the downtown recruiting station that they are not welcome in the city. Furthermore, by an 8-1 vote, the council voted to give anti-war groups the right to harass the Marines, even giving protestors a parking space in front of the recruiting station. The only council member to vote against both proposals was Gordon Wozniak, with council members Betty Olds and Kriss Worthington joining Wozniak in voting against the council’s resolution to boot the "unwelcome intruders."

“The city council leaders need to be reminded that all the freedoms we enjoy as Americans have been earned by generations of patriots who were willing to fight to protect the liberties we, as Americans, enjoy,” said Lisicki, a Vietnam War veteran from Carteret, N.J.

What Lisicki said also troubled him was the failure of city authorities to do nothing when Code Pink, an antiwar group who originated the complaint against the Marines, defaced the front door of the recruiting station by altering the sign “U.S. Marine Corps Officer Selection Office" to "U.S. Marine Corps Officer Assasination [sic] Office."

“If anyone has earned the right to have a presence in any community in this nation, it would be the U.S. Marines,” said Lisicki. “The Marine Corps is welcomed in every city and town across the America except for the City of Berkeley and by the Taliban and Al-Qaeda in Iraq and Afghanistan."

The national commander also is encouraging its 2.3 million members of the VFW and its Auxiliaries to e-mail or call city council members.

Gloria, Thank you very much for putting this in my comments!! I knew the Marine Corps. would not accept this without their voices heard. I know they will have much success, and I will do everything I can to let me voice be heard as loud as I can!!

Thank you again, Gloria!!

Brian Dennard @ 10:26 pm

On Jan 31, 2008 I wrote a letter to the Mayor of Berkeley stating my position regarding his and the City Counsel's position on the USMC recruiting station. I passed that letter along to a couple of Marine handball buddies. They passed that email/letter to the guys who play in the Semper Fi handball tournament at MCRD, who passed it along to, who passed it along to, etc. In my wildest dreams I never envisioned the response I have received. I now spend ALL DAY answering my cell phone acknowledging that yes, I really did write "THE" letter, and receiving personal thank yous from Generals, Majors, Colonels, SGTs, PVTs, CEOs, COOs, talk show hosts, and average everyday American Patriots. Likewise I spend the balance reading emails from the same sort of people. I am humbled to a degree that is hard to state clearly. I am emotionally overwhelmed with the positive response to my letter and want to thank everyone who has called me or emailed me to state their support. My intention was never to shine the spotlight on me, it was to cause, to whatever degree I could, great fiscal discomfort to the city of Berkeley in retaliation to their un-American, cowardly and despicable stance that the US Marines are unwelcome, and uninvited intruders in their city. If in my small way I helped light a fire that now appears to be blazing across the nation, I am proud of that, but I am more proud of the fact that I could , at a time when our heroes are fighting against those who would destroy us, help focus some attention to the vast debt, and undying respect, that we as a nation owe to the men and women of the United States Armed Forces. Respectfully, Brian G Dennard Dear Mayor Bates, Jan 31, 2008 In that you and your city have chosen to gravely insult the brave men and women, who have indeed bought you that right with their blood, I am informing you that my company will no longer do business with any of our current suppliers located in the Berkeley,California metro area. In that my company is in international resort real estate development, and do business with and am associated with, developers and investors worldwide, I am informing all of my contacts, associates and patrons that we will no longer do any business of any sort with anyone living in the Berkeley area. In that we/MDG Resorts are currently building a state of the art mega-yacht marina, all of the suppliers of Marina equipment, all owners of Yachts , all suppliers of Yacht materials & supplies, all yacht brokers and all tangential yacht business purveyors will likewise be informed that we will not do any business whatsoever with anyone from the Berkeley area. Likewise all suppliers of building materials, both interior and exterior, currently associated with any of our several resort developments (Brisamar 300+ villas and 200+ condos: Porto Hussong, http://www.portohussong.com 500+ condos, 180 slip mega-yacht marina) both of which I might add have international recognition by virtue of glowing reports in Robb Report, Wall Street Journal, Yacht World, Forbes. I will likewise inform all of our investors, most of whom are very wealthy yacht owners, casino owners, high net worth international businessmen, of our decision to essentially boycott all products and providers located in, or associated with in any way whatsoever,Berkeley, Ca. Trust me when I say that having been in the real estate development business for over 35 years, our list of contacts and associates is long and very, very impressive. We, and I personally, are going to recomend that they ALL along with us boycott your city, its purveyors, suppliers, and businesses and CHARITIES of every kind. You have every right to choose to take the obnoxious anti-military stance you have taken, and as stated, that right was bought for you with the blood of better men than you. I too have every right to do all that I can to insure that your city suffers consequences arising from that obnoxious, sickening stance. Brian Dennard @ 11:41 pm

Dear friends,

While we thought that we were close to reaching our goal of getting an apology from the Berkeley City Council, it turns out that the City Council is far from apologetic. Quite the contrary they are now, at the next meeting 2/26/08, formulating a request to the Canadian Governement "to provide sanctuary for U.S. military service members who are living in Canada to resist fighting in the Iraq war" (deserters)! This newest outrage dictates that now more than ever, we need to keep severe economic pressure on the businesses and the Berkeley Chamber of Commerce.

After several strategy sessions with Duane "Dewey" Clarridge specifically about the goals of what was started back on January 31, when I first wrote the now (in)famous Letter to the Mayor of Berkeley, it has become obvious that we need to consolidate our disparite group into a cohesive entity that can apply intense economic pressure to not only Berkeley, but on Toledo, Ohio as well. (You all know what the Mayor of Toledo did in canceling the USMC urban training/maneuvers at the last moment in that city, citing numerous absurd reasons).

I am aware that there are several patriotic organizations actively pushing petitions which lambaste the City Council of Berkeley and are calling for it to " immediately revoke all the resolutions passed on January 29th, 2008 that defamed and insulted our U.S. Marines and issue a full public apology to this nation, and in particular, the honorable and heroic men and women of the United States military." Not the least of which is Move America Forward, with our good friend Melanie Morgan leading the charge for them, and another by Jay Seculo at the ACLJ .

However, I still believe and contend that the way to the "hearts and minds" of the citizens of Berkeley, who are responsible for duly electing the councilmen and women who have gravely insulted, belittled and besmirched our military, is through the ruination of that city's businesses both small and large by directly communicating to them and to the Chamber of Commerce our unrelenting intention to boycott each and everyone of them, and listing all the companies involved in our boycott, and list of names of all the men and women nationwide who back this economic boycott , and free speech movement.

This approach is bolstered by an email I recieved yesterday: As a former Executive Director for two local chambers of commerce, I can assure you that you certainly hit them where it hurt. While serving …, I became aware that our local cities can ill afford to alienate their constituents, nor to jeopardize their businesses. D. T.

Only when the citizens of Berkeley walk up to the members of the City Council as they pass by on the street and say "Tom (Bates), you and the Council's stand/statements have destroyed our city, we are in economic ruin", will the City Council be forced by their constituents to issue an apology, and a commitment to cease colluding with and abetting ANY organization which impedes the recruiting efforts of U.S. Military recruiters.

To that end, I need all of you who are still with us in the Berkeley Economic Boycott to please respond to expobd@yahoo.com. Let us know if we can (or not) count on you to allow us to identify you and your company in letters to the Berkeley businesses and to the Chamber of Commerce so that they know we are acting as a group. One letter, backed and signed by the group as opposed to myriad letters which may or may not end up in the "circular file" disregarded and unread, will be much more effective. This letter needs to specify who is boycotting and how Berkeley and Toledo will be affected.

PS. I needed to use an alternate email address to differentiate between new emails (100-150 a day) at my MDG account and the 60-70 daily at this cox.net account. Please only answer this request by emailing me at expobd@yahoo.com. Doing so will help me greatly in this effort.

Action plan:

Create a boycott website

Prepare and post on the website a form letter to be used/signed by all those in agreement with the economic boycott. Te letter should state that the boycott will be lifted upon posting of a letter written by the City Council/Mayor apologizing to the U.S. Military and a commitment to cease colluding with and abetting ANY organization which impedes the recruiting efforts of U.S. Military recruiters.

Posting that letter to the Mayors and Chambers with no prior warnings.

Contact all businesses listed in the Chamber of Commerce in Berkeley and Toledo and inform them of the boycott/send letter.

I need to hear from you ASAP. These actions should get the attention of the Senators who are tip-toeing towards bringing the No Earmarks for Berkeley Bill to the floor for an up or down vote.

I also need your comments and suggestions as to a name for the new entity and general observations.

Thanks for all of the support and kind letters.

Best to all of you,

Brian G Dennard
